It took me a while, but I found them!

http://my.verizon.com/central/vzc.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=vzc_help_contentDisplay&case=VersaLinkFix

There are more links for the 327W, some of which work, in the thread
that starts at
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19697747-New-firmware-for-Westell-327W-version-4.4.3

It worked for me, although it took a few minutes. Just thought I'd
share this information with all of you.

Verizon did a forced upgrade to my 327W firmware to version 4.04.03.00 quite
a while ago.

I was just fine with the older firmware.

Is the router working well otherwise? Which model of 327W was this?
IIRC the D90-327W15-06 that Verizon sent me when I signed up for
DSL in June '07 got forcibly upgraded to 4.04.03.00 at some point, I
don't recall when.

Recently I suspected an intermittent router problem, so I picked up
a A90-327W15-06 on eBay for $12 and am using it now. That came to
me (from its previous user) with a considerably earlier version of
firmware with a somewhat different user interface, but I upgraded it
from the link above to 4.04.03.00.

I have two 327W modems (second one is for backup). Both are Model
B90-327W15-06.

I just remember years ago reading at DSLReports.com about Verizon forcing
firmware upgrades to the 327W and the next day the forced upgrade happened
to my 327W.

I liked the older GUI better than the current one, but I don't get a choice.

The modem/router works fine. At some point I will switch to FIOS and my two
327W modems will be added to the glut of them for sale on Ebay.

I also have two even older Verizon DSL modems that must be worthless.

Hang on to them.

In case Verizon sells out their landline business in your area.
Here, west of Portland, OR, Frontier has taken over. They are
offering DSL as a budget internet service. Right next to fios.
But, DSL comes with some pretty steep modem rental fees. So,
having your own DSL modem can help lower your costs.

Of course, once you get on fios, it's hard to go back.
But it's nice to have options.

Does anyone know the differences between the various Verizon Westell
327W models? Or a link to a site explaining it?

I /think/ the firmware upgrade to 4.04.03.00 adds WPA and WPA2. Can
anyone confirm or deny this?

Judging from the glut on eBay, can I assume that since my contract
ended, the router belongs to me, not to Verizon?

BTW my parents just signed up for Verizon's 1 Mbps DSL, and IIRC
they were sent a Westell 6100. No setup CD; all that's now done
online, at least in their case.

The main difference that I know about is the first ones issued by VZ
were made in China [it says where made on back] and constantly
rebooted in heavy traffic like when firewall was turned on or using P2P
app's because they did not have enough memory some said.

A few months later they shipped same 327w but these were made in
US and performed a little better but still had random rebooting.

The they shipped another model made in US with different
firmware that worked OK.

Then they issued flash firmware upgrades for us who had China
made modems and US made modems which each used different firmware or
different configuration flash flies had to be used on the US than on
the China made 327w, the firmware version I don't know? if they were
numbered different or not but I remember they each China and US used
different files to flash to whatever version? that now works in both
the early China and early made US 327w

The other [I think there was 3 models of 327w] was the good working US
made modem and the last 327w to be issued by VZ that I know of.

I have a very early China made 327w here with firmware...

Software Version: VER:4.04.03.70
Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0
Model Name: A90-327W15-06

This one has worked great since I flashed it about 6yrs ago, then it
seems like VZ did a auto-flash over the network once also about 4yrs ago.

I can see my A90 is made in China while my D90 says Made in USA.
But are there any differences in functions available, or speed, or
anything like that?

The A90, B90, and D90 were/are made for Verizon. The C90 was made
for BellSouth, and I've heard mentions of E90 and F90. Westell's
web site has some info, but refers you to your ISP for support for
the customized routers.

That's the same as the model I just bought (I suspected problems
with the D90). I flashed it from the website above, and I'm waiting
to see whether the intermittent problems (occasional outages lasting
only a few minutes) will happen now.

No difference that I'm aware of, they are OEM made, that is they were
made by Westell but to VZ specifications. Some were manufactured for
Westell in China and rest in USA is only difference I know of.

They all have same options, settings, looked same, etc. and they all worked
fine as long as they had the latest firmware installed far as I know.

Thanks for the info, Patrick! If my "new" A90 is any improvement
over the D90, then it's a good chance that whatever problems went
away were due to the individual router.
