Verizon Blocking Spam calls

Verizon is blocking some (not all) spam calls. The phone rings once and then the
CallerID shows "SPAM? Name Unav" followed by the telephone number. Have had two of these today. I
also have nomorobo.com and don't know how they will get along together.

I have Verizon and NoMoRobo and have gotten a few "SPAM?" calls in past weeks
- but did not know what to make of them.

NoMoRobo seems to work pretty well, but I would like to hear the explanation
of why so many calls get two rings in before NoMoRobo steps on them.

I never get two rings on NoMoRobo. Always one ring. I have Verizon FIOS for my digital land line.

Same here.

Good for Verizon adding SPAM? to the caller id.
At least a step in the right direction.

I sometimes answer what I think will be a robocall and found no one
on the line. My wife has a theory that the robocallers have started
hanging up after three rings, presumably to make better use of their
time. I haven't tested that theory but I intend to.

I think the Telemarketer systems call a bunch of numbers at one time and
when something picks up it gets transferred to a live person. Maybe they
don't have a live person available to take the call. Many times when I
get a call that Nomorobo hasn't blocked I will pick up after a few rings
but I don't say anything right away. Eventually I do but most of the
time it hangs up on me without saying anything.

Maybe that happens just along the Upper Main Line? :-) :-)

Here's one possible explanation.
NoMoRobo works by answereing the call on the first ring and then
hanging up. It's possible that the robocallers are immediately calling
again in hopes that their victims will answer the second ring before
Nomorobo picks it up again and hangs up again. After all, if you hear
a second ring, your first thought is that this is NOT a robocall.

The only way the call gets past Nomorobo is by calling immediately while
the first call is in progress so it gets bounced to Call Waiting. I've
gotten that a few times but I don't think it's due to their trying
anything like that.

I'm also getting the SPAM? notification but I think it's Nomorobo
picking it up, not Verizon. And I'm not sure where you got from the
poster that it's ringing twice. As others have said, I've never had a
call handled by Nomorobo that rang twice. If you are, maybe Nomorobo
missed it because it wasn't in their database and it's the caller that
hung up.

Nope.

2 reasons:

1. I saw online discussion indicating it was Verizon.
One poster said he got email notification of the change.

2. Nomorobo is using simultaneous ring.
There is no way for them to generate a callerid and send
it to your phone.

Perhaps the 2 ring issue was caused by the handset.
Nothing saying a handset couldn't ring twice for each ring
signal it gets.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I know that the SPAM? is coming from
Verizon. But Nomorobo is picking up the call after the first ring, as it
does with other calls that Verizon doesn't flag.

Perhaps, although it seemed like it didn't always happen. On my phone,
only the handset that is connected to the wall jack rings. The remote
handsets never even ring. And the call doesn't last long enough for even
the main handset to get the Caller ID info (it does show up on my TV).

I get the SPAM? affixed to the caller ID too, but it just keeps
ringing thru. I have the non digital version, 7 digit dialing.

Cheers
