Recording repeat shows

I'm new to FIOS but I know from my prior service that a third party
provides the program information. Consequently, I wasn't too surprised
when I discovered one of the shows I record wasn't recording last night.
What did surprise me was FIOS wouldn't let me record it because the
information said it was repeat. I have it set up to record first runs
only but that doesn't mean I might not want to record it anyhow! How do
you get around this?

Change the series (and I'm guessing it's a series) to "first run &
repeats". There are two choices.

repeats".   There are two choices.
Mostly I only want first runs. I include repeats on some long races
where the station breaks for other things.

This came up because it actually was a first run but marked as a repeat.
Under other circumstances I might want to force a repeat to record
because I missed it the first time around. This might come up when a
station is running a marathon.

Are you saying that isn't possible if I have a series recording set up
for that show and have only selected first runs? That's just bizarre!

If you don't want first runs only and one episode is not showing up as
first run you have to just mark it manually I guess. We do that here,
now and then for some reason they air an episode at a different time or
day for scheduling issues on the network, and I have to manually
compensate for it since I have mine all set at exact time and date, not
any time or date.

Yes, it's not a perfect world.
